Planting Herbs are a fantastic medium for teaching a wide-range of skills:

The basic class is "How to Plant and Care for an Herb"  a one-hour class.

Depending on what your students need, classes will be planned according to the skill(s) requested.  

math skills- measuring, fractions, percentages, ratios, following directions, researching, using AI, and many others

reading skills- following directions, researching

writing skills- labeling, note-taking for scientific process, observations, narratives, essays, poetry 

biology of plants, ecosystems, habitats, and more

history of herbs- pulling in cultures, time periods of different herbs becoming used in certain countries and what was taking place politically, economically, etc. in that region.  Use of herbs in different parts of the world over different time periods, herb trade over time, etc.

Alabama Expressions will provide everything needed to learn how to plant a young herb, prepare soil that will most benefit the plant, choose a pot that will help create the best moisture levels for the plant, and understand light and water needs for different herbs.  This describes the basic class, but we will provide everything needed for any skills class, as well.  I am a retired teacher and principal.  I taught sixth grade for eighteen years and was principal for Pre-K through eighth grades for another fifteen years.  I focused on hands-on, project-based learning, integrating as many skills and subject areas as possible for every lesson.  I worked hard to provide such a motivational learning environment that kids could not wait to get to school and then chatted all about what they learned when their parents asked, "What did you do in school, today?"  

If you choose skills that are more in-depth and take more than one hour for students to acquire a good grasp of the skills, the class may be planned for longer.  If several hours are needed for in-depth study or several skills, we can discuss multiple classes and cost.  

You may choose the venue to hold this event (your home, public place like a park that has granted you permission for this event, venue you have rented, or ask me via notes, in comment section, to find a venue—any cost will be extra, including finders fee for time involved).
